About Dr. Elena Akra
Elena Akra is a practicing clinical psychologist. She has worked for five years with children and adolescents suffering from Mood and Eating Disorders. In addition, she has worked with adults for eight years and is currently in private practice.
Elena Akra graduated with a doctorate degree in clinical psychology at Chicago School of Professional Psychology, Chicago, Illinois. She did her doctorate internship at Jackson Memorial Hospital, University of Miami, Miami, Florida. She has published several articles and has made numerous presentations on Mood and Eating Disorders.
Based on cognitive-behavioral theory and clinical experience, Dr. Akra has also written a series of six workbooks for children in third to eighth grades to teach the building blocks of self-awareness and self-empowerment.
In her 13 years of clinical experience, Dr. Akra has observed the need for patients to accept their feelings and express them with healthy actions. She has noticed how patients significantly improve as they realize the power of their thoughts to determine their feelings and actions.
Elena Akra currently lives in Florida with her husband of 20 years and her three children. They were the greatest source of inspiration and support to write these workbook series.
